Welcome to www.gb3vhf.co.uk, the website of the 144.430MHz amateur radio
beacon located at BT Fairseat on the North Downs in Kent (JO01EH). Providing a
service to amateur radio operators on two metres for over fifty years.
The beacon is continuing to provide a service to amateur radio and
professionals alike, for the study of long distance VHF propagation, equipment
and antenna system performance evaluation and checking, and scientific studies,
for those located both in the UK and internationally.
The Fairseat site at a height of 205m ASL is located approximately 10 kms
south of Gravesend or 2 kms north east of Wrotham village, and has a clear take
off in all directions.

This beacon is now independently run “for VHF DX-ers, by VHF
DX-ers” and receives no financial support from any organisation. Please

Please have a look around the website and read about the beacon’s
advanced technical features and facilities, and the story of GB3VHF which is
one of the longest serving amateur radio beacons in the world. This is only the
beginning of a new era for the beacon as investigations are under way to look
at the feasibility long term, to hopefully include a proposal for a 70cms unit
(GB3UHF) at the same site.
I have been the beacon keeper for some eight years now, and previous to
that I was involved to a high degree with the maintenance of the beacon for
several years. During that time I have endeavoured to make sure that the
service to radio amateurs continues as it has successfully done for the past
fifty years.
